To P Or Not To Be P

Maruti’s SX4 has received a good reaction from the market and first month sales have actually surpassed the Honda City’s. But then this blog is not about celebrating the sales of the SX4. It is about what lies in Maruti’s future.

In the hysteria of the SX4 we have forgotten about the new threebox car under development on the Swift platform. Sources indicate that the car would be up for launch by March 2008. I assume that the same petrol and diesel powertrains that power the Swift hatchback will power the threebox version as well. Though the diesel may come with a variablegeometry turbo.

In the pipeline is also the Model P the replacement platform for the Alto though knowing Maruti the current Alto will stick with us for a long time. The Model P will come out of the Manesar plant and Maruti will export 150000 units to Europe plus a 50000 Nissan badged ones and heavy domestic consumption. That’s what will keep the big Manesar plant busy for some years. The Model P debuts in October 2008.

In addition Maruti has been toying with the idea of introducing an MPV / people carrier. Nothing concrete there. But the Grand Vitara is a go and will be in market in a couple of months.

A completely electric car is powered by either batteries that must be recharged at charging stations or fuel cells. Fuel cells take in hydrogen gas and convert it into electricity. Often electric cars can also run on or at least be supplemented by solar energy in the form of panels on their roofs or bodies.

This electricity source whatever it might be is used to power an electric motor. The motor is a coil of wire that can spin freely inside a casing of magnets. When electricity is fed into the wire it makes a magnetic field that turns the coil very quickly. By fastening the spinning coil to an axle the wheels are driven along. A modern electric car can get 250 miles or more on a single charge more than sufficient for most day to day commuting purposes.

The next part of the process after weve loaded it with catalyst and methanol is to turn the machine on. Theres a switch on the back youll hear a fan kick on and now heres the hardest part you reach out reset it and push the start button. In about twenty seconds a light will come on in here. A huge stirring motor is going to start in here and it will begin dumping methanol into the main tank. Here it goes you can hear it kicking on. Were going to show you what youll get after you wash it. The next step is to put sulfuric acid into that machine. It allows us to get better yield? So were going to put 380 milliliters of sulfuric acid into there. Simply pour it down watch my mark put it in the big machine. Its incredibly important that youre wearing safety gloves when youre dealing with sulfuric acid. Thats one and two. What Ive now done is Ive placed 380 milliliters of sulfuric acid into here. The process will begin Ill put this big lid onto the machine and Ill leave it alone for 24 hours. When I get back Ill have biodiesel Ill drain off the glycerin and we can begin a wash.
